Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)

Teeth grinding or bruxism is a neuromuscular disorder that can damage and loosen the teeth. The severity of teeth grinding varies with the individual. Children usually outgrow the condition. Stress, abnormally aligned teeth, Oral sleep apnea and neuromuscular deficiency are some common causes of teeth grinding and treatment should focus on these factors. Night guards the most common devices ordered by most dentist for teeth grinding. Night guards are made of high-grade plastic. They are worn at night and they prevent the upper teeth from grinding against the lower teeth. Comfort and durability are important considerations when purchasing a night guard. Although ready made night guards are available at many stores, custom-fit night guards prepared by dentists obviously have a better fit.

At Dr. Davoud's office, we believe that this a band aid approach trying to treat the symptoms and not the cause of the problem. However, if the patient's philosophy is to manage the symptoms rather than the cause, then the band aid approach is adequate enough until the symptoms persist and the problem becomes more of a chronic pain issue.

Have you ever asked yourself why is the grinding happening at night time or even during the day? What is your body really trying to tell you?

Well keep on reading. Our office is not an ordinary dental office. We recognize and are able to diagnose and treat a modality of head and neck pain, migrain, some ear and eye related problems, and fibromyalgia that may be due to mal-alignment of bite. Our office is ranked at the top 1% of all dental offices for having advanced technology for diagnosing TMJ/TMD symptoms. All equipments are FDA approved.

Dr. Davoud is a trained neuromuscular and a dental sleep physician with all the necessary and sophisticated equipment such as: Myotronics K7 system consisting of electromyography (EMG), electrosonography (ESG), computerized mandibular scanning (CMS) along with Ultra Low Frequency (ULF) TENS machine to place the bite and jaw muscles in the proper and most optimal position. The optimized bite can alleviate head, neck and shoulder pain, migrains, fibromyalgia, jaw muscle and facial pain because the facial structures are at their most comfortable physiologic position rather than current strained position.

As we all know, muscles like to be in a happy non-starined position and when this is accomplished, pain can be significantly reduced or eliminated.

Call us today for a consultation and come to find out how we can help you get rid off years of pain with our non-surgical, non-drug, non-inavasive neuromuscular orthosis treatment.
