The letters in CBCT stand for “cone beam computer tomography.”
What is the CBCT scanning machine and how is it used?
The CBCT scanning machine used at Ramsin K. Davoud Family and Cosmetic Dentistry is a device used to not only create imaging that is precise and clear, but to improve the patient experience. This method of imaging is much faster than traditional x-rays, and is comfortable for patients. The device provides an extremely clear, 3D image for our dental team for improved diagnosis of defects, decay, infection, and other concerns. It is also used by our team to plan out procedures such as the placement of dental implants, as it allows the dentist to explore the health of the jawbone and to find the best placement areas for dental implants to avoid complications.
The CBCT scanning machine is a highly advanced tool that is used in our practice to ensure patients have access to technology that provides more effective treatment. Our practice is committed to investing into our patients. We purchase some of the latest devices to be used in our dental office to provide optimum results for every patient who comes to our door for care. We focus on biological dental care solutions, ensuring that everything we do is safe and biocompatible with the patient’s body. We also want to avoid invasive procedures, so we offer solutions that are more advanced and less invasive.

How does the CBCT scanner work?
The patient is properly situated in either a seated or standing position. The patient is positioned in a way that stabilizes the head, and a chin positioning bar for the patient to rest their chin. Once the patient is properly positioned, the CBCT scanner starts to work. The device has a special detector that rotates around the head in a 360-degree manner, taking images faster and more effectively than a traditional dental x-ray. The entire process takes less than a minute, and patients are able to return to their treatment room as their dental staff evaluates the images for the desired purpose. Our team can also show patients their images on the in-office screens to explain to patients the diagnosis they receive.
In what ways may a dentist use a CBCT scanner?

- Checking locations of sinuses and nasal cavities
- Detecting tumors or other changes to the jawbone
