A guide to Myobrace® treatment for children: Resolve underlying orthodontic problems now, avoid braces later
The Ramsin K. Davoud DDS office in Turlock, California, takes a “holistic” approach to malocclusion, or misalignment of the teeth and jaws. Dr. Davoud and our talented team account for all factors contributing to crowded, crooked, and otherwise unevenly-spaced teeth. We appreciate that myofunctional habits play an important role in developing and positioning teeth. Habits like tongue-thrusting and persistent or severe thumb-sucking transcend anatomical anomalies, such as “too small jaws” or “too large teeth.”
The Myobrace® system offers many benefits by resolving the underlying myofunctional problems that contribute to malocclusion. Furthermore, early treatment with Myobrace® can reduce the need for orthodontic treatment, like braces, later in life. Such conventional orthodontic treatments may require removing teeth to create more room in the mouth for braces. Myobrace® also presents a conservative and tissue-preserving alternative to traditional treatment with braces and dental extractions.
What to expect
The “sweet spot” for Myobrace® treatment is between the ages of seven and eight; however, this multi-faceted system is designed for children aged 3-15.
Myobrace® treatment involves:
- Your child wearing a series of special appliances that easily slip in and out of the mouth. They should be worn as directed, either overnight or for one to two hours daily. The appliances place light forces on the teeth to support gradual repositioning
- As a “physical therapy for the oral muscles,” these appliances are complemented by Myobrace® “Activities” or exercises. These daily “trainer” therapies are designed to improve myofunctional behaviors; for instance, they train children to seal their lips properly. They also promote proper breathing through the nose instead of breathing through the mouth. Proper tongue posture or placement is further supported, which also aids in healthy swallowing

Myobrace® is a comfortable, affordable, and non-invasive alternative to traditional treatments such as braces. Teeth that are treated with braces may shift back into their pre-treatment positions. Myobrace®, however, achieves sustained results.
