Gentle care, sedation in Turlock promotes relaxation and fights dental fear
One of every 10 respondents to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Health Interview Survey did not visit the dentist for oral health problems due to fear. Routine visits to the dentist’s office are a foundation for good oral health. Dr. Ramsin Davoud empathizes with the many people who may have apprehension about visiting the dentist. To prevent oral problems, Dr. Davoud promotes relaxation dental care at his Turlock office.
Non-judgmental, gentle dentistry
Our surroundings are comfortable, our staff warm and welcoming. We are open and transparent about costs, and treatment and payment options. Dr. Davoud also practices conservative dentistry that preserves natural tooth structure. Minimal alteration of a natural tooth is associated with an efficient, non-traumatic procedure and healing.
As a modern, high-technology office, we also use a variety of advanced equipment. Lasers, an intraoral camera, digital X-rays, and other sophisticated devices support a conservative, gentle experience. Many of these technologies also eliminate the common sources of dental fear, including clinical scents, sounds (drills), sensations (pressure, vibrations), and sights (needles).
A helping hand
Patients also benefit from a convenient, comfortable calming method: oral conscious sedation. This sedative option refers to taking a pill (oral medication) as directed by Dr. Davoud. The pill induces a state of relaxation. Commonly, patients are instructed to take the first dose the night before the dental appointment. The second dose will be taken about an hour before that visit. Since the medication causes drowsiness and takes effect relatively quickly, it is a “must” that transportation be arranged to and from our office.

Fear and anxiety dissipate. Patients remain conscious and able to respond to our staff. They may nod off but can be easily awakened. Afterward, there is little to no memory of the dental procedure. Unlike other types of sedation, this method does not produce additional sources of stress; for instance, nitrous oxide must be delivered through a nasal mask. Intravenous sedation involves administering the calming medication with a needle inserted into a vein. Masks and needles can elevate that “fight or flight” response associated with emotional duress.
Some patients, including those who are undergoing long or complex procedures, may benefit from deep sedation under general anesthesia. We are happy to provide more details about your options. Call Ramsin K. Davoud DDS Family & Cosmetic Dentistry at (209) 666-8867.
