Oral health is important for everyone, good dental care is essential to a child’s developing mouth. Pediatric dentistry is important because it helps children learn how to take care of their teeth and gums and establishes a foundation for a lifetime of oral health. Through prevention and education, pediatric dentistry offers compassionate, gentle dental care to children. At the office of Ramsin K Davoud DDS in Turlock, CA, we love the opportunity to care for children.

Pediatric dentistry in Turlock – The First Visit

When you notice that teeth are starting to emerge in your child’s mouth, it’s time to take them to their first dental visit. Most dentists will recommend bringing children in by the age of one. This first visit is mostly about getting kids familiar with the dental chair and working with parents about how to properly care for primary teeth. We’ll examine the child’s mouth and discuss what to expect as more teeth emerge. If we notice any early signs of decay, we’ll discuss steps for remedying it.

Pediatric dentistry in Turlock – Ongoing care

By the age of two, your child will need to begin six-month dental visits. Somewhere around the ages of four to six, we will begin taking x-rays as well. During each six-month visit we examine the mouth and provide a professional cleaning. We’ll take note of any early signs of decay or cavities and treat accordingly. During these visits we may also make recommendations on improving brushing and flossing techniques, nutrition information, thumb sucking, transitioning from the bottle to cup, and more.

Pediatric Dentistry in Turlock – Assessing Orthodontic Needs

Around age seven or eight, we may recommend an orthodontist’s evaluation. Decades ago patients weren’t referred to the orthodontist until around 12 or 13. We start earlier evaluations now to identify causes of crooked teeth, so we can more effectively treat them.

When it comes down to your children, we understand that parents want the best. Teaching children good brushing and flossing habits, proper nutrition, and maintaining regular dental care can help them have healthy, beautiful smiles. To learn more, call (209) 666-8867.
